The history of this business is important to me, so I want to tell you my story. Canterbury Barn Candles stated out in 2003, in a barn that adjoined my house in Chichester, NH. It started out as a hobby, as I loved the old fashioned wire bale Mason jars, and I thought I could do something to get people to keep their jars. I started to make candles as gifts for friends and family, and it grew into a passion that basically took on a life of its own! People in the community, near and far, Farmhouses to County Inns would donate their jars to me for my new venture. I would hear stories about their great grandparents and further down the road "town folk" that would toil over their land and can their gardens to feed their families, year after year. And, they would always use the same jars... To me, it was an honor to gather these jars, and fill them with the finest Soy wax, fragrance as well as essential oils, and to custom make a candle that can be any color to the purchasers liking - wow. How exciting! This is how this business was born. I have since moved further north to Tuftonboro, and very is similar to Chichester. Now, a little and a lot of important information about my line. WAX - Soy and Paraffin wax are very different. Paraffin wax is in a lot of candles, but paraffin is a derivative of fuel oil... it is a petroleum based product that is very unhealthy to breathe, triggers allergies, and they produce soot. The Soy wax I use is a clean burn, soft and produces no soot because Soy is a natural vegetable, it does not aggrevate allergies. It also burns slower and cooler (50% longer than paraffin) and distributes fragrance longer. I also use lead free wicks, and I also make Scentless candles for those that do have allergies that still love the candle. (Of course, you could try a scent and see if your allergies still act up....maybe not!) For 2010, I have expanded my line to include: Be Still Bath Salts, Hot Tub/Jacuzzi Sprinkles (PH acceptable), Diffuser Reeds, Permanent Car Air Fresheners (no more cardboard to throw out) and Natural Oil Burners.
